Dubrovnik turns into Nottingham for Robin Hood filming

7 December 2016

The Croatian city of Dubrovnik is undergoing transformation, as preparations got underway yesterday for the shooting of upcoming film Robin Hood: Origins.

A variety of locations around the Old City will be used for filming, including the port, Stradun Street and St Dominic Street, with the first steps towards giving Dubrovnik the Nottingham feel taking place at the Old City’s eastern entrance.

“Wooden constructions were being placed around the ancient harbour and from the mock-up of the whole set that could be seen today it would seem that there is plenty more work to do,” The Dubrovnik Times wrote.

British director Otto Bathurst oversaw proceedings on set yesterday, which involved a crew of 60.

“This is my fourth or fifth time in Dubrovnik, the city is amazing, it’s beautiful and it is an excellent location for filming,” said the director, who will be working with Hollywood stars Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan and alongside executive producer Leonardo DiCaprio.

Filming is set to begin in February next year, with the film’s premiere expected in January 2018.
