Russia unveils new neutral kit for 2018 Winter Olympics

18 January 2018

Russian sport fashion brand Zasport has unveiled its new neutral kit for Russian athletes at this year’s Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Designers were forced to scrap the original 1980s-inspired sportswear after the Russian team was banned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from competing at the games amid allegations of a state-backed doping system. Russian athletes will instead compete as “neutral participants” under the banner “Olympic Athlete from Russia.”

The new range has already been approved by the IOC, which has forbidden Russian’s neutral athletes from wearing any kind of national symbol, including the Russian tricolour. The new kit replaces the white, red and blue of the Russian flag with grey, red, and beige, keeping some subtle hints of the 1980s style with simple silver parkas.
