Winter wonderland: stunning snowy scenes from across the New East

21 December 2017

If there’s one thing eastern Europe does well, it’s winter. While the rest of Europe is left dreaming of a white Christmas, this season is the perfect opportunity to wrap up warm and head East. From the frosty trees of Bulgaria to the icy mountain peaks of Slovenia, the photos we’ve collected look like real life Christmas cards. A few of these photos were taken in undoubtedly the coldest place in the region — the Russian North. Other of these winter destinations may surprise you: though synonymous with warm weather, come winter, Macedonia, Georgia and Kazakhstan are blanketed in snow. If it’s not yet snowing where you are, get your fill of true winter landscapes right here (click on the photos to find out where they were taken).
