Constantly drawing upon and about current affairs, Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi has penned his latest series on life amid lockdown and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Penciling puns and sharp observations, the Sibiu-based artist draws on the official and the outlandish responses to the outbreak, from stockpiling foods to declaring the state of emergency.
The shopping queues, empty shelves, and panic have reminded many Romanians of life under communism. “If borders close, it looks like communism. And the fear, especially the fear,” says one of Perjovschi’s sketched characters looking at the empty shop shelves.
