Log on to the world of Georgian contemporary art with the Tbilisi Online Biennale

The Tbilisi Online Biennale has kicked off with a series of video art installations, virtual art tours, and artist talks.

Called Home Alone, the biennale represents artistic interventions in the digital space, focusing on the theme of survival.

“As a child of 90s Georgia, a DIY approach has become my way of survival,” biennale organiser Mariam Natroshvili says. “When nothing worked, we had to invent and do everything by ourselves. This ability later proved effective as a working method in my organisational and artistic practice.”

The event involves dozens of Georgian contemporary artists, including the designer, hip hop singer and visual artist Maxime Machaidze, and provocative conceptual artist Gvantsa Jishkariani, among others.

“If there is no museum, you have to make one. If there is no biennale, you have to start it. If you have neither a building, nor money, nor a collection — you need to find means to navigate the situation. You need to build digital galleries, museums, or temporarily transform any space into a museum,” Natroshvili says.
