Voluptuous, surreal, explicit: these daring digital collages explore female sexual taboos

Voluptuous, eerie, surreal, explicit: Georgian designer Mariam Katcharava’s brightly coloured collages stir, move, and challenge.

Working as a graphic designer by day, Katcharava puts on a pseudonym, Vivienn, to create her collage artworks in her spare time. The 22-year-old started creating the artworks two years ago, when she first opened Photoshop.

“I search for freedom in my collages,” the artist told The Calvert Journal. Katcharava is not a shy artist, exploring fetishes, libidos, and taboos in a varied blend of photography and graphics. Indeed, Vivienn is both the artist’s identity, and a different persona, providing an opportunity to examine feminine ideals, womanhood, and female sexuality through colour and form.

“Although today freedom is more available than ever before, some women are still shackled, and find it difficult to express themselves, or to accept their bodies,” Katcharava said. “Getting to know myself as a woman, as a body, and as a mind, helped me find new answers, which I’m exploring in collage.”
