The Myth of a Tech Body: open call for contemporary artists launched by Russian gallery Anna Nova

Nova Art is calling on young contemporary artists from Russia to submit ideas for artworks on the relationship between the human body and technology.

The art competition, now at its 8th iteration, is curated by Snejana Krasteva from Moscow’s Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, and organised by Anna Nova Gallery in St Petersburg and the Alexander Foundation for Culture, Art, and Education.

Submissions must respond to this year’s theme, “New Skin: The Myth of a Technological Body”. Inspired by feminist scholar Donna Haraway’s 1985’s landmark essay A Cyborg Manifesto, the topic invites artists to reflect on new forms and boundaries of human identity, and the mechanisms of creation of political myths.

The call is open to Russian artists under 40 years of age, and the submissions must be projects that have not yet been realised. An expert jury will select 12 winning artists, who will be awarded grants of approximately £3,000 for the completion of their work. The finalists will also receive feedback and mentoring support from leading art professionals, and will present prototypes of their projects in an exhibition held in St Petersburg in summer 2021.
