Published by independent feminist online magazine Feminists of Kyiv, founded in 2019 by Kyiv-based activist Bozhena Makovska, @femkyiv posts pics from protests, information on women’s issues in Ukraine, and interviews with local feminist, non-binary, and transgender activists.
“Our main goal is to set up connections between feminists from Kyiv, and feminists from other cities all over the world,” Makovska told The Calvert Journal. “We define our mission as the reinforcement of the global feminist movement by involving the Kyiv feminists’ local community in it.”
Some of the personalities featured on @femkyiv include musician Olesia Onykiienko, who set up Women’s Sound, an experimental and educational music platform for women, and artist duo Kate Sapsai and Christina Rupp, who created NEMOVCHY, a comic that tackles issues seen as taboo in Ukrainian society.
