Visitors from the Galaxy Revisited: 11 artists reimagine Yugoslavia’s first all-electronic film score

A new vinyl compilation of Yugoslav music transports listeners to a country that doesn’t exist: not the former Yugoslavia of the past, but a sci-fi world from the future. Released by record label Fox and His Friends, Visitors from the Galaxy Revisited is a tribute to the 80s sci-fi film Visitors from the Galaxy, directed by the Oscar winning Dusan Vukotic.

Bringing together 13 tracks by 11 artists from nine countries, including Croatian duo Alen & Nenad Sinkauz, Serbian producer Tapan, and the French-American Goran Vejvoda, the 78-minute album builds on the hypnotic sounds of the original 1981 score by Croatian composer Tomislav Simovic (1931-2014). Visitors from the Galaxy was the first Yugoslav film with an entirely electronic music soundtrack, and the new release offers dramatic new dance remixes of its socialist space electronica.

Over his career, Simonovic produced the score of more than 300 films, including The Fourth Companion (1967) and I Have Two Mothers and Two Fathers (1968).
