Ukrainian flight attendants are ditching high heels and skirts for statement suits and Nike Airs

Ukraine’s biggest low-cost airline, SkyUp, is ditching old-school high heels and skirts for female flight attendants in favour of flowing trousers and pristine white Nike Airs.

Named SkyUp Champions, the new uniform was styled in collaboration with Ukrainian fashion brand GUDU. In addition to the trainers and a loose-fitting tangerine two-piece suit, flight attendants will be given the option to wear a light trench coat or a silk handkerchief — designed both to be comfortable on flights, and to reflect changing social norms for women. While make-up will still be mandatory, flight attendants will also have a wider range of choice of hairstyles to wear with their uniforms.

“Professional flight attendants first appeared almost 100 years ago. During this period, a lot has changed, and most importantly, women have changed,” SkyUp said on their Facebook page. “[The transformation] requires a new vision of the profession, and revolutionary changes. Now, we are initiating these changes.”

For now, uniforms for male flight attendants will remain unchanged.
