Fly over a former radio station in Kaunas with a hypnotic acid set by Less Feeling

Who: Less Feeling (aka Šarūnas Šimaitis), a Lithuanian DJ well-known among the house and disco enthusiasts in the country’s second largest city, Kaunas. Šimaitis has performed live on the rooftop of a former radio factory in an episode of Antidote: a video series in which Lithuanian talent from across the country is invited to play, with each of the sets streamed online. So far, episodes have taken viewers inside medieval monuments and church bells, on top of Vilnius’s highest Soviet-era tower, around airports, and into the middle of the countryside, in the hope of integrating electronic music into everyday Lithuanian culture and drawing attention to the country’s urban and rural sights.

What to expect: the set leans heavily on breakbeat and, over the course of one hour, progressively introduces acid, house, and 90s-inspired sounds. Meanwhile, we get to soak in glorious shots of the radio station and the nearby modernist Christ Resurrection Basilica, against the backdrop of Kaunas’ modernist cityscape. The video quickly switches between drone footage and close-ups of the set, and blends shots using quirky transitions that add to the psychedelic feel of the performance.

What they say: “Kaunas has been consistently taking small steps in reclaiming its lost identity, after being forced into a deep stagnation under the Soviet regime, ultimately reaching a point, where the resurgence is felt through its architectural novelties, and cultural maturity. Its electronic music landscape has grown to become among one of the most attractive ones around Europe for its young generation of noteworthy talents,” Antidote told The Calvert Journal. “This episode aims to show that the development of cultural idealism and artistic modernity in Kaunas is emerging by taking a completely different turn.”
