The first annual Sarajevo Street Art Festival opens this Friday.

The festival will take place over a three day period across more than 20 locations throughout the city. This year, the festival will take on the theme “Urban Transformation – Looking at Sarajevo from Another Perspective”.

The festival programme will include events focusing on visual arts, architecture, theatre, music, conceptual art, education and community, and will feature performances and exhibitions that will transform many of the city’s streets, bridges and parks, as well as live street performances. Bringing an international flavour to proceedings will be a special performance by the VITKAR Institute, a Ljubljana-based cultural institute that focuses on dance and performing arts.

Numerous art academies in the city will come together to realise these urban transformation projects, including the Academy of Fine Arts, the Academy of Performing Arts and the Music Academy, as well as the University of Sarajevo’s Faculty of Architecture. As part of the festival, students at the Academy of Fine Arts have transformed the Eiffel Bridge into the “Bridge of Winds”, adding a metal installation to the bridge that uses the power of the wind to produce a musical sound.

The Sarajevo Street Art Festival will run from 25 to 27 September.
