Moscow’s Garage Museum of Contemporary Art will organise its first triennial dedicated to Russian art next year, it was announced on Thursday. Due to open on 10 March 2017, the triennial will showcase work by Russian artists created in the last five years.
The triennial coincides with the anniversary year of the Russian Revolution. The museum released a press statement saying: “Just as the Revolution encouraged Russia’s first avant-garde, Garage hopes to spur the next.”
Last week, Garage also marked one year since the opening of its permanent home in a repurposed Soviet restaurant in Gorky Park renovated by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.
