300 Words on Resistance, an exhibition exploring perspectives on resistance, opened at Baku’s YARAT Contemporary Art Space on Friday.
Drawing on the conviction that resistance is both personal and political, the exhibition brings together the works of seven emerging Azerbaijani artists: Farhad Farzaliyev, Ilkin Huseynov, Sitara Ibrahimova, Aida Mahmudova, Elturan Mammadov, Habib Saher and Zamir Suleymanov. The works by these artists, which represent the concerns of the country’s younger generation, are placed in dialogue with older works by established Azerbaijani artists who played a key role in resistance during the Soviet era, going against the norms of Socialist Realist art.
The exhibition explores a wide variety of themes relating to resistance, including gender relations, cultural stereotypes and socio-political uncertainty.
300 Words on Resistance will run until 9 October. More information can be found here.
