Russian pensioners to bridge the generation gap with language teaching

Pensioners from Moscow are set to reach out to younger generations as part of a new language project, which will see them connecting with students around the world via Skype.

According to LinguaLink of Generations project organiser Svetlana Pavshintseva, the initiative will provide fresh purpose for the pensioners taking part, as they will be helping students of Russian around the world both with their language skills and knowledge of Russian culture.

LinguaLink of Generations is due to launch this September, although students from the UK, France, the USA, China and Thailand have already signed up to take part. In preparation, the project organisers have been in negotiations with non-commercial organisations in Moscow that work with older people and will be able to forge links between the initiative and potential teachers, as well as helping the pensioners to familiarise themselves with the necessary technology.
