Digital gift card service Bouxtie (pronounced bow-tie) looks set to become the most successful Croatian startup ever.

Founded by Croatian entrepreneur Renato Librić, Bouxtie is now based in San Francisco and has offices in the Croatian cities of Rijeka and Zagreb, as well as in Luxembourg. According to Mr Librić, the company has received an offer for $120 million to sell up.

“I wanted to sell the company for $120 million but a large credit card company came along and said, ‘We believe that you can become a $300 to $500 million dollar company, and we will provide what is necessary to get in there for the next 24 months’,” he explained in an interview with Forbes, also noting that he had first decided to move the company headquarters to the US after advice from investor Richard Branson of Virgin fame.

The US gift card market is worth a whopping $160 billion — we’re looking forward to seeing Bouxtie rise to the top.
