Monte in the Croatian town of Rovinj, set on the coast of the Istrian peninsula, is the first restaurant in Croatia to receive a Michelin star.

The restaurant’s momentous accolade was announced yesterday, with the critics praising the team at Monte for the subtle flavours in their dishes and the cool, contemporary environment they have created within Rovinj’s picturesque old town.

“Creative and sometimes theatrical, their kitchen is also surprising, with the use of modern techniques to create beautifully presented, tasty dishes,” reads the report in the Michelin guide.

Another 32 restaurants in Croatia earned a mention in the 2017 Michelin Guide — surely they are hoping to be hot on the heels of Monte and soon earning their own Michelin star.
