Top of the pop ups: a celebration of food across Russia

From a van or your front garden, selling meatballs or mojitos, the choices for Restaurant Day are endless. This week, the tenth Restaurant Day was celebrated across Russia with wannabe chefs out in full force peddling an array of culinary delights — everything from cupcakes to crepes — for all to enjoy. For one day only, pop-up restaurants cropped up in cities such as Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St Petersburg, Vladivostok and Voronezh. Restaurant Day was launched in Finland in May 2011 to celebrate the diversity of food around the world and has been held four times a year since. More than 1,700 restaurants in more than 200 cities in 30 countries took part in the last Restaurant Day in May, a huge leap from the inaugural event when only 45 pop-ups participated. The next Restaurant Day will take place in November.
