In between days: photographer Christina Abdeeva escapes Paris Fashion Week

It’s that time of the year when the fashion cognoscenti descend on Paris for a week of catwalk shows and parties. For those looking to escape the buzz, there is always Parc de la Villette, the city's biggest park and a favourite haunt of fashion photographer Christina Abdeeva, who used it as the location for this story shot exclusively for The Calvert Journal. Designed in the late Eighties by French architect Bernard Tschumi, Parc de la Villette was created as a “non-place”, a homogenised space like an airport, railway stations or motorway that, in the words of anthropologist Marc Augé “cannot be defined as rational, or historical, or concerned with identity”. "I was greatly inspired by Parc de la Villette’s vast spaces, concrete textures and shades of grey, charcoal and sea-green,” says Abdeeva. “Somehow it contains so much mystery. The architecture takes hold of you and you stop trying to find any visual references to anything you’ve seen before.”
