The first album by Cape Cod, the project of Kiev-based Maksim Sikalenko, premiered last week. Founder of Kiev House Records, Sikalenko is a regular in the Ukrainian capital’s emerging house movement. Cult showcases the range of genres that came to influence Sikalenko in the three years since since launching the project.
“If the original sound bordered on house music and UK garage, then the types of music that have emerged in the process of growing Cape Cod are more disjointed — jungle rock, 70s jazz, blue-eyed soul, vogue influences, acid house and 90s Belgian techno. Thanks to the vocals of Constantine, Stas Shmelevsky and Miami-based Austin Paul, we managed to iron out all the sharp angles of the album,” Sikalenko told The Calvert Journal.
The artist enlisted the help of Stuart Hawkes, who has worked with the likes of Jessie Ware, Amy Winehouse and Tom Odell, to master the album. As a result, Cult makes the perfect transition into summer. We recommend Bit Beach — where the best of a Kiev rave and an Ibiza pool party come together.
