When The Calvert Journal found out that the rock band Placebo was touring Russia, we asked them to document their trip as they toured the country through cities such as Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, Ufa, Yekaterinburg and Voronezh. As in previous entries in our Point of View section, the plan was for them to take photos on a disposable camera. But with none for sale in the city of Voronezh, one of their first stops, the band’s resourceful tour manager turned to Russian eBay where she found an old German Praktica camera. All good until we tried to develop the photos, which came out blank. Luckily, Stefan Olsdal, who plays guitar and bass in the band, had taken plenty of pics on his iPhone. From Russian street art to images of grim suburban edgelands, this is the exclusive photo diary of their travels.
